@zaicualex The refresh rate for consciousness is between 20-40ms. You are correct. Subconscious advertising would have to be below the consciousness refresher (below ~20ms).

@Jointi5 You're right, I should have phrased it slightly better. Perhaps: "Science has shown this type of subliminal messaging has been thoroughly debunked." And yes, youtube isn't the temple of rational discussions most of the time.

@Jones52003 While the source is legit, your interpretation isn't. Your original statement was "... has been thoroughly debunked." That statement differs from the statement of your source. To sum up your quote, subliminal messaging works... sometimes. Btw. Thanks for the (in the internet rare to find) "normal" discussion.

@Jointi5 it would have to be so weak that it would not reach those who have high thresholds. Advertisers lack control over consumers' distance and position from a screen. In a movie theater, for example, only a small portion of a the audience would be in exactly the right seats to be exposed to a subliminal message. The viewer must be paying absolute attention to the stimulus." And so on and so forth, the research is easily accessible on the internet, just do a quick search.

@Jointi5 Well, I could recount the famous Vicary experiment that showed it doesn't work, or do a quick google search or look on the wikipedia page for the linked studies that show it doesnt work, but Ill quote the textbook "Consumer Behavior" by Solomon as he recounts the problem of subliminal advertising: "There are wide individual differences in threshold levels. In order for a message to avoid conscious detection by consumers who have low thresholds,.." cont.

it's illegal everywhere. besides, this is NOT subliminal, the frame is too long, it has to be like 10 ms to be subliminal.
