Tory, the name for this cult action of cutting off ties is called "shunning" It can be found in all cults as a powerful, in fact THE most powerful, behavior changing technique available. Even if it doesn't bring a person back in line, it affects the rest of the members profoundly. We need our families, our tribes. It is life and death. It is so cruel to do. You are a brave woman.
