    Hey Greenstar,

Is this true??? That's so cool!!! I love the poetry of Robert Burns....

  • Hi Lauren! Yes, your gramps, and my uncle, Johnny, used to play alot of instruments. I remember him playing saxophone and mandolin and basically anything he could get his hands on. Regarding who Phorquieu is, I am not sure either. I assumed he was a friendly stranger until now. Let me see if I can get a response out of him, because it sounds like a "him."

  • Listen Screw-you, or Phorquieu, or whatever your name is. The mandolin is actually descended from the Lute, which has a murky origin. The mandolin was indeed basically developed in Italy, but music, as all true musicians know, is a universal medium, and as such, there should never be any restrictions or rules placed over what is acceptable and what is not. And furthermore, how much more can I "mix it up" than to play a Scottish Folk tune, on an Italian instrument, on an American website?

  • Hey, you stole my name! But thanks for the kind words! It is appreciated.
