The bells in Burton tower at Michigan were cast by the Taylor foundry.

I ring on Gillett and Johnston bells every week as Coventry Cathedral has them... they also cast superb bells but they went out of business.

Why disagree? I play regular on Gillett & Johnston bells at University of Leuven and I like them very much! Playing (transmission) mechanisme of a carillon is an other matter and an other discussion... and at this point, where Taylor use counterweights to compensate key pressure I prefer other carillon builders using better transmission systems, more playable, since counterweights increase the key pressure with factor 4!

From UM website I found: "55 bells cast in 1936 and 1975 by the John Taylor & Co. Bellfoundry in Loughborough, England. The largest bell, which strikes the hour, weighs 12 tons and the smallest bell, four- and-one-half octaves higher, weighs 21 pounds."

Who cast these bells?
Tylor's ho ho ho
I ring Taylors bells almost every day as their bells are common in England. I would say that theyre the best bellfounders in the world, though I am sure you will disagree :). Their work is beautiful though, especially after 1896.
