As NME writer Keith Alston put it, this song is "Pure Walkerama".
When I first heard this song in 1966, I was living in a bed-sit in Leeds, nursing the wounds from a recent break-up. It has been one of my favourite songs since then.
It was written by John Stewart, a fourth Walker Brother who was with them when they arrived in UK. Unused to the right-hand drive UK road system, he stepped off the curb and was hit by a car, breaking his leg and ending his career with the Walker Brothers.
Lovely song, and THAT VOICE!! Now his music is so abstract it only makes sense to him and just a few others, unfortunately.

@pattiameo So true about his current "method". Self indulgent to the exclusion of his appreciative fans who love his rich, lilting bass baritone.

Agreed. Such a shame (and a loss) that for last 30-40 years both he as a performer, and the media to try to persuade him to perform, have avoided each other.
