This is a very simple line following robot I made recently. It follows a black line on a white surface. The circuit doesn't use a micro-controller and is very simple, using only two ICs: a LM-339 Quad comparator and a L293D Motor Driver. For sensing the line I have used two CNY-70 optical sensor, each of which consists of a photo transistor and IR LED pair. For supply I have used a 6V rechargeable lead acid battery. Initially I did try using standard AA batteries but they get drained quite fast as you can see in the "goof-ups" shown in the video...

  • ... and similarly for the left sensor. When the black line is between both sensors (i.e. in the center ) both motors must rotate..

6> this way the robot never crosses the black line

7> Lastly for the comparators i used 2.5V as the reference voltage to 1 input of each comparator. it can be done with a simple 1Mohm potential divider circuit....

  • arey its very easy...

1> 2 motors for right and left wheels

2> 2 CNY 70 sensors on the right side and left side of the robot For the resistance values check out any other circuit using CNY 70 online, the biasing circuit is very easy to design....

3> The output of the sensors is to be given to a pair of comparators which in turn drive the motors via the motor driver IC L293D

4> Logic is as folows:if the right sensor senses the black line then the right motor must stop rotating ....
