@artistjada until the late 1800's in the West, no one married for love...it was all about property, security, alliances...so, she wouldn't be wondering why she had to marry him if she doesn't love him. Plus, she's pretty old at 16 or so....most girls were married or betrothed at 12 or 13.... And she would have known him...it's a tiny village, where, likely everyone's related in one way or another.

@DimeraFan28 history tells a different story...the Romans weren't nearly as bad and the Jews weren't nearly as good. But, it is a terrible scene in the movie, nevertheless.

@ChaseTheCapital I think the most famous one that she was in was the Whale Rider...an excellent movie, especially for kids...it's also about a legend (this time one from the Australian aboriginal people)
