Experts say churches should have security plans in place, but often don't. First Baptist Church in Maryville, Ill., where the Rev. Fred Winters was fatally shot Sunday, was working on a security plan but had not yet implemented it. (March 9)

  • interesting how so many shootings happen in "gun free" zones.... ie: schools, college campuses, churches, banks...and Chicago.

  • many people who want to get guns for criminal activity get them off the black market...you are never taking the guns out of criminals hands, you are just taking away a law-abiding citizens ability to protect themselves...

  • all i can say is it is a very sad day when you need security teams and armed gaurds at churches i personally feel there are certain places you schould never have security and a church is one of them if you cant feel safe in your church then where can you

  • Just pray to God and they will be secure amirite?

  • Since god is all-powerful and all-seeing, and watches over churches, it is obvious that God killed this paster - just as if he pulled the trigger with his own holy finger.

  • You can't be at a high alert or stress all the time, it's not good for you. About 10 years, someone went into a buddhist temple in Arizona and killed the monks inside does that mean we should be in high alert and hire security company to watch every temple? I don't think so. If someone gets shot while driving, should we get bullet proof car or an escort?

  • God is watching over all churches! How dare you believe he needs help!

  • I am, just something I have learned over years, I can draw a gun in defense within seconds no matter where I am, though my pistol is about 4 seconds from my computer sigh cant be perfect, least its loaded and ready to go

  • how are you going to be on alert all the time?

  • why would anyone want to hurt church goers or pastors? It was just a random incident and the church security company just wants to make money of the church.
