My 7th grade choir is singing this! I am so excited!! It's beautiful! :) It sounds amazing at the beginning when the ooooo's are being sung and someone reads the poem.
My daughter just read my post and corrected my "memory".
I had the wrong piece - the piece that Z wrote for the music teacher, Nancy Peck, from Montclair Elementary school is entitled "The Poet Sings", which is itself a beautiful piece. Sorry for the misinformation, I guess my memory is not as good as I remember it.
Regardless, it does not change my sentiments about the performance by the St. Pat's choir - it was excellent.
Dr. Z. Randall Stroope wrote this song when he was conductor of the Nebraska Children's Choir in memory of a junior high school teacher in Millard (Omaha) that had passed away suddenly. My daughter's choir was the first to perform it! I remember listening to it with tears in my eyes thinking it was one of the most moving songs I had ever heard. Oh the memories!
The St. Pat's choir performed it perfectly. Beautiful rendition of the song - just as I remembered it. Z would be proud.
Were learning this right now in choir!!! Mr. Araujo is the best choir teacher ever! Just google his name and st. Patricks high school and you'll find out the whole story!
