  • I eat a lot of fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel, but generally I buy it tinned simply because it keeps longer. Upon opening the tin, I do NOT proceed to cook the fish any further than the manufacturers may have done so already. Question: am I still getting the health benefits?

  • Jack Lalanne has stated he prefers fresh as possible and has talked about the healthy & strong natives of Fiji he met who eat their fresh caught fish every day. He occasionally eats canned tuna, sardines etc but not everyone can afford super fresh, wild caught fish. You are still getting health benefits with canned or flash frozen fish, but eating straight out of the sea would of course be optimal.

  • Again, very impressive, way ahead of his time. Even before science knew what Omega 3 was, Lalanne understood the importance of fish, and that frying it ruined the EFA's. He even used soy sauce... at least 20 years before it became fashionable to cook Asian food.

  • So you hear that ladys..... put the fish on your rack

  • He lived to 96, not too shabby. I miss this guy

  • I tried this with the double broiler tonight with Swai... and WOW, I'll never prepare fish any other way. A little thyme, bay leaf and parsley, and I was set. No exaggeration that it only took 2 minutes to thoroughly cook. Thanks jack!!!!

  • this was the 50s? wow he was great id like to watch him today. hes no nonsense not all the hype /music / fancy sets they use on tv now.

  • @draman7 but the fact that we can look at each others lives and predict what we are going to do before we even THINK about doing it, tells me that free will as we know it does not have any real objective value. And in our post-idealogical society, objective truth is the only truth that has any meaning.

  • @draman7 Now if you want to get into hairsplitting (what I actually "believe"). Yes, I believe that nothing is my fault... or your fault, or anybody else's "fault." To me, "fault," is merely one of the ramifications brought upon us by an even larger illusion: free will. This is not to say that free will doesn't "exist." But rather that it exists inside each one of us, facilitating the motivation to continue our existence. What is my will is not your will, and what is your will is not my will,

  • @draman7 perhaps you are right (although I'll have you know that I don't drink, smoke, do drugs/party- not anymore at least). We all have a tendency once and a while to associate the negatives in our lives with the good naturedness in other people. Of course, I am not perfect- far from it. I have made many mistakes, more than someone with my conscience would be readily willing to admit... But my point was to assert the CORRELATION between upbringing and life successes.

  • is he gay?

  • After what's going on in Japan right now with them dumping that radiation into the water and stuff I don't think I'm going to go catch some fresh fish any time soon.

  • Eating canned fish, however, may contain unusually high amounts of mercury. A good way to circumnavigate this slight problem is by switching the kinds of fish you eat. Tuna and the larger fishes; Ie:Sharks, contain the most mercury. It is almost never a problem, but it is never bad to play it safe!

  • ima gonna to try it right now Jack
