The kamancheh, kamencheh, kamānche, kamāncha or qyamancha (Persian: کمانچه - violinette) is a Persian bowed string instrument related to the violin. The word "kamancheh" means "little bow" in Persian. This instrument is widely played in classical music of Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, with slight variations in the structure of the instrument.
Please stop it! Music is for brotherhood!!

yes your right but it does not mean bow as in the bow for a violin but its derived from the Kurdish word "tirr u keman". which means bow and arrow.
at first this instrument had 3 strings but 1 was added as it became popular.

Kaman means ''bow'' and chech means ''diminutive'' basically ''small bow''. And there I don't think there is any older version of this, if there is it's something else. However we got the ''Byzantine lyra'' which is similar.

@EmperorOfPersia
no
you turned it persian. all the information is bullshit because there is nothing written about kurdish music and culture.

@BewarKurdishMusician
No. It is originally a Persian instrument dating back to the Sassanid Period. Even the name is Persian, it was first made with a coconut covered with sheep hides. Another evidence is the Hasht Behesht in Esfahan which shows a Woman playing the Kamancheh dating back to 1600s.
