Crisp autumnal sunshine greeted families waving off the Portsmouth-based warship HMS Manchester as she sailed out from her home port yesterday, Monday 12 November 2007, to begin a seven-month deployment. Manchester's programme will see her operating as part of an American Carrier Strike Group led by the giant aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman. Although precise details of her deployment are still under consideration, it is expected the group will deploy to the Mediterranean and Middle East.

  • The British and U.S. forces will never fight each other however the British would need a little more firepower than a few more 45's to take on the U.S. Navy.

  • HMS Daring will shoot and destroy any ship that even dares challenge her, i love that ship so much, i wish the Royal Navy would order more than 6 of those beautiful Type 45 Destroyers, they should all have been made at the same time all 6 Type 45, i think the US Navy realize their destroyers don't stand a chance again 45 type! But then we (Hopefully) won't ever need to point our weapons at them! Are the Type 45's only defending England or are they going to Somalia for Pirates

  • why does the military people always stand with their hands behind their back? Seems a very unatural posture and looks very forced. THey could do with relaxing more. Hands by ur side looks so much better. In my navy rules you would have ur hands by ur side not stuck behind ur back

  • after reading the title, and being from manchester

i was really worried 10 sec in, and thought we need to up our game, but it all turned out ok in the end.

  • geez.. why is it that even the Germans and the Spanish seem to have superior war vessels compared to the British? has the Royal Navy withered that much?

The HMS Manchester is going to look like minnow next to the top of the line ships and subs that surround the Truman..

  • My son was on HMS Manchester that day, I was on the round tower. Great to see the video. Very emotional!

  • My daughter is on the Manchester and we live too far away to see it go. Thanks X
