This book follows the case of the Lafferty brothers, whose religious beliefs and subsequent conversations with god, resulted in their taking the lives of a young mother and her baby daughter. Both were practicing fundamentalist Mormons in America, the birth place of Mormonism. Jon Krakauer's book examines the origins of Mormonism, from its founder Joseph Smith all the way through their turbulent and often violent history, to early 2000's and the theological and legal conclusion of the Lafferty brother's controversial trial.
