Virtual Running with Grand Theft Auto IV

If this were built professionally, I'm sure this would be done electronically instead of mechanically. Figuring out how to make it turn left and right was the most difficult problem because as the elliptical machine handles move forward and back, the distance changes constantly between your hand locations and the controller. Solution: bike brakes.

While I'm exercising, I don't do anything but run and control direction. The purpose for this is only to make running on the elliptical more interesting while I get in shape. Afterward, I play the game as intended, including shooting the crap out of everyone!
