Great idea. I improved it a little. I used an eye-bolt and instead of a washer I used a small carabiner. That way the carabiner can snap into the eye-bolt and you can use it as a neck strap. And if you make the string a little longer, step on the carabiner with one foot and run the string under your other foot, you can adjust the height of your camera by moving your legs closer or further apart.

Someone may have already mentioned this, but the tripod mount from Manfrotto has a little loop on the bottom (used for tightening the screw). I used the loop to tie the string to and never had to remove the tripod mounting plate. Worked well.

Thanks. Got the vertical horizontal thing down. Let me know when you've come up with a way to stabilize the tilt LOL :)
