Neanderthal: 99.5 Percent Human
By Ker Than, LiveScience Staff Writer

The results from the new studies confirm the Neanderthal's humanity, and show that their genomes and ours are more than 99.5 percent identical, differing by only about 3 million bases.

"This is a drop in the bucket if you consider that the human genome is 3 billion bases," said Edward Rubin of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who led one of the research teams.http://www.livescience.com/health/061115_neanderthal_dna.html

Edward Rubin of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California, states that recent genome testing of Neanderthals suggests human and Neanderthal DNA are some 99.5% to nearly 99.9% identical.[78][79]
Body paint
A 2009 report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) on two archaeological sites in the Murcia province of southern Spain records the discovery of shells showing pigment residues, and concludes that these were used by the Neanderthals as make-up containers. Sticks of the black pigment manganese have previously been discovered in Africa. These may have been used as body paint by Neanderthals.[73]
In 2008 Richard E. Green et al. from Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Munich, Germany published the full sequence of Neanderthal mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and suggested that "Neandertals had a long-term effective population size smaller than that of modern humans."[82] Writing in Nature about Green et al.'s findings, James Morgan asserted that the mtDNA sequence contained clues that Neanderthals lived in "small and isolated populations, and probably did not interbreed with their human neighbours."[83][84]

  • Liars for God are still LIARS! You should be ashamed. You are obviously not a scientist. Neanderthals are one of several parallel species. If your 'God' made them, then why did they die out? Are you a liar? Or an idiot?

  • Jesus sucks big fat donkey cock. And no, I will not actually argue against this. You creationists simply do not listen, so what's the point.

  • @winterstellar Another question about the hereafter is what a 2 week old embryo does in heaven. Does it just sit there for eternity waiting to be born? And why can't a pet owner take their dog to heaven with them?

  • STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! I usually don't shout on the internet, but no scientist (which creationists refer to as evolutionists) refers to Neanderthals as nonhuman or "ape men". They're usually understood to be a separate, but closely related, species of human. I never cease to be amazed at the dumb arguments creationists make.

  • @winterstellar A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back. Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. Proverbs 26:3-5

  • Haha! When in our evolutionary history did we start going to "Heaven"? Which individual in which generation was "human enough" to go to Heaven? Approx. when, 100 thousand yrs ago, 141, 209, 234 thousand..or when approx.? A damned shame for the neanderthals, by the way, that they didn't get to go to heaven! It's SO unfair! Was it those big eyebrows and low foreheads God didn't like? Haha, it's really hilarious to try to make bronzeage fairytales fit with modern science, fit the real world.. : )

  • 70% of the human genes come from viruses ( a professor told me), because they add their dna to cells in which they enter. this is happening for millions of years with animals, now way this has anything to do with god, viruses are not even alive, they are more like a thing.

in the case that god created everything, including all animals and humans (which i really doubt, because god does not exist), he made it terribly wrong. no one can call a virus the "pride of creation". maybe god is a virus?

  • Scientists are "confused" but preachers pulling shit right out of their ass are always CERTAIN they have a monopoly on the truth.

  • @MrRouXRenard they didnt die out!! they got it on with cro magnom women, and after hundreds of generations, people changed. Its called evolution!

  • @MsKittenz1

    100% true !
