To me Embryionic Stem cell research just doesnt seem like a long term success strategy because you are putting foreign, or alien material into the body (embryonic stem cells have their own DNA and come from ANOTHER genetic line not your own) wouldn't it be better to enhance the production, release, transportation and migration and replication of your own healthy adult stem cells which already exist in your bone marrow.

I hope ACT can continue smoothly. They're already also planning for treating pretty much everything on the body lets not forget the eyes.
Imagine Bill gates of Steve Jobs would've go blind 20 years ago... where would the world be today?.... aah, no more losing disciplined talents that can make world changes.

Do you expect me to believe this garbage?

why would you believe anything you hear about on Oprah ? you may as well be watching FOX news...

See this is what ticks me off! We are in a financial crisis and yet we have money to back up research that does not work! We wasted so much money on research that has yet to help us in its ten years of existence. We knew for the longest time that adult research was helping people and we put money on embryonic. Shoot we need to put that money into adult stem cells and stop wastin money we don't have that luxury anymore!

@albatrossforlife but that's just your biased views clouding your outlook. point is ESC research is taken from blasteocytes & they can become anything, true they can become dangerous , but what if we find a way to control it to become a type of cell we want? the possibilities are endless. both r excellent ways to learn more & expand our knowledge. but your saying that since we haven't figured it out yet we should stop? that doesn't make since. we should use all opportunities to help find cures.

While iPS cell technology is very promising, there will continue to be a need for embryo derived ES cells for research in the near future. The statement by Dr. Oz (cardiac surgeon, not stem cell scientist) incorrectly implied that there is no cancer risk with iPS cells, when in fact both ES and iPS cells can lead to tumors. Federal funding for the derivation and study of ES cells will be critical to the advancement of regenerative biomedical research.

Aren't adult stem cells even harder to turn into OTHER more specialized cells?? How could they possibly be more successful at it than embryonic? And furthermore, I implore all adult-stem cell-only proponents to PROVE it. Where are the studies suggesting only adult stem cells work? Surely there must be SOMETHING to come out of embryonic.
And furthermore, I'm so glad this debate is over in America, essentially. It was silly and frivolous to oppose embryonic. They're just cells!

Well now there's another option

Can anyone actually tell me at what point a fetus becomes a child? Just curious, as you guys don't ever seem to actually be able to agree on it. And I don't believe in god, so "life at conception because of god" doesn't actually mean anything to me.
It's ironic how there are two forms of stemm cell research. One has been proven to have results while the other has zero results...Go figure that Obama sinks money into the failed one.
