Actually, I'm pretty sure that the word had its other meaning since the late 1800s (there were even burlesque shows where the performers had little stuffed cats under their skirts, if I'm not mistaken). Heck, there's even a song called "My Girl's Pussy" from the early 1930s, which takes the double entendre as far as it can go.
Anyone who thinks that has any kind of sexual connotation needs to get their mind out of the sewer. Especially those who think it's funny and those who would say something like "That has sexual meaning, don't say it around me or in my house"
