This brief clip shows a pointing dog cooperating with the handler as it advances on a scent source. This dog has a lot of experience tracking and pointing running pheasants, and has developed a style of advancing, checking with the gun, then moving forward on a hand signal. This is especially desirable when crossing fences, getting through ditches, or around cover obstructions for a clear shooting position. If pursuing a really fast runner, I can hunt this dog at flushing dog speed, and only minutes later get him to staunchly point. This is the hallmark of the German Wirehaired Pointer, a breed developed with versatility in mind. These dogs deserve to get the chance to do what they were bred to do.
