You're cranking these things out faster than I can absorb them, but I finally got all the way through this baby!
I can't wait to get into the Dick Hyman thing. Dick Wellstood (the late Stride player) introduced me to him at a gig in Switzerland in the mid-1980s.
RE: Bass lines, I find that I tend to favor solid roots on both the beginning of a phrase and also its landing point (in favor of non-root chord tones).
To turn this into a "The Joy of Improv" book would be a great idea.
