You didn't HAVE to; liberals always argue by throwing throw defamatory labels at anyone who disagrees with them.
Any white who disagrees with a black is automatically racist, just like any gentile who disagrees with a Jew is an anti-semite, just like anyone who thinks that a president should be a natural-born citizen is a "birther" etc.
It's how they get around facts and logic through personal attacks.

Gun-control nuts also say that killing someone in self-defense is worse than their committing the crime and getting away alive... which doesn't speak very highly of the victim's rights.
I say kill the criminals in the act, and save the cost of catching, convicting and jailing them-- and the risk of their not being caught or punished.
Violent riminals HAVE no rights.
