In a video-telephone conversation with Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Saturday, the Dalai Lama openly condemns the Chinese Communist Party, saying it's built on lies and run by hypocrites. The Tibetan spiritual leader accuses the Chinese regime of blocking his visit to South Africa for Desmond Tutu's 80th birthday celebrations.

On Saturday, the Dalai Lama sharply criticized the Chinese regime for blocking his South African visit to attend the 80th birthday celebrations of fellow Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The two friends spoke to each other via a video-telephone link.

[Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rights Activist, Nobel Peace Prize Winner]:
"Why does the Chinese government fear you?"

The Tibetan spiritual leader replied in jest.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]:
"Some Chinese officials describe me as a demon, so immediately some fear about demon. (LAUGHTER) When I first heard that kind of the Chinese official comments, I feel laughing. So I immediately responded, yes, I have horns."

The Dalai Lama then said the Chinese authorities find his honesty threatening.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]:
"In reality, a communist totalitarian system, not only communist, but many totalitarian systems, hypocrisy, telling lies, it's unfortunately become part of their life. So you see someone who tell truth honestly, truthfully, justifiably, those people who carry hypocritical way of life, then feel uncomfortable."

Last week, the Dalai Lama cancelled his trip to South Africa after failing to get a visa on time.

The Chinese regime was reported to have resorted to economic blackmail to block the Dalai Lama's trip.

Also last week, Chinese regime promised the South African government $2.5 billion in investments during the South African deputy president's visit to China.

Tutu said the South African government's conduct and kowtowing to the Chinese regime is "a national disgrace"—worse than the former apartheid government.

The Dalai Lama remained undaunted.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]:
"Your 90th birthday, I'm looking forward to. At that time, don't forget to send me an invitation. Then we can test your government."

  • Dalai Lama x.!-.-!.x Your Awesome. Say Hi to your king from me

  • love the religious unity here as well. Archbishop and Buddhist (Atheist) leader coming together. Sadly most of these unions are based on uniting in the face of a bigger enemy. Hopefully it lasts after the Communist downfall.
