Ok, artists, take notes, there will be a quiz later. Noted fine art teacher, The Artist's Magazine columnist and artist Richard McKinley takes us into his studio for tips on painting better with pastels.

This clip is from his new instructional North Light DVD called Bold Underpaintings for Lively Pastel Landscapes with Richard McKinley. You can get it where ever you buy art instruction DVDs or go here: http://bit.ly/dpJy3a.

With this DVD, you'll learn how to use underpainting techniques to set up a pastel painting for exciting responses. Richard demonstrates a variety of methods--pastel, watercolor (as well as other wet media) and thin oil paint applications. Watch as he applies a watercolor underpainting step by step to create a landscape scene, opening the door to the possibilities and letting go of control. He then goes on to complete the scene with pastels, responding to the underpainting for a lively finish. Nifty, huh?

By all means, visit Artists Network TV at http://artistsnetwork.tv/ for a complete overview of products from The Artist's Magazine, Pastel Journal, and Watercolor Artist magazines. You'll be glad you did. Tell 'em we sent you.
