The 2009 FishingCorner.co.za Salt Rock Kayak Fishing Competition started early on Saturday morning in February. 161 kayaks took to the water armed with numerous rods, reels, gaffs, bait, lures, fish-finders and GPs to hunt for the biggest gamefish possible. The start was at 5am, they could launch from one of three locations but had to beach at Salt Rock before 12h00. Many fish were caught : dorado, couta (king mackrel) snoek (queen mackrel) bonito, tuna. Only 1 fish could win. But first the paddlers had to negotiate some pounding surf with all of their equipment.
