The constitution of Sri Lanka mandates that to be eligible to be nominated for election as President the candidate must first and foremost be a citizen of Sri Lanka. [Article 31 [1])The other requirements relating to eligibility are that the candidate must be qualified to be an elector [Art-92) and not subject to any disqualifications specified in Article 89 of the Constitution.

-----
Sarath Fonseka eligibility to vote in Sri Lanka was refused by authorities.
He kept it secret and applied as a presidential candidate, where he must have fulfilled the prior requirement first.
Once exposed, he had no choice other than to accept the truth.
All his supporters are being fooled!
Serves them right for their ungrateful attitude against out mother land!!

  • In order to contest for the Presidency you do not need to have a registered vote.

    The requirements are:

    1. Citizenship

    2. Over 30 years of age

Saying that this is cheating is a lie.

Even Wimal Weerewansa does not have a registered vote.

  • Wimal Weerawansa did vote. Go to ITN website and check the news videos.

Sarath Fonseka is neither a Citizen of Sri Lankan nor qualified to be elected to the office of President, even if he is considered as a citizen.

  • Imagine if SF was the president.....

current president of SL has no right to vote????????

think god he did not win

  • Yeah but Weerawansa wasn't an ignorant prick to deceive his voters and ask people to vote for him knowing that he doesn't have the right to vote!! SF took his voters on a ride...but fortunately the ride didn't get him anywhere!!
