I wrote the song "Took Away The Drums" because it is from this fact, (that happened so completely in America) out of which Blues came. And all that followed ie, jazz, rhythm and blues, rock and roll...even hip hop. They all come from Blues. And Blues comes from God to deny the lie of our nothingness. What you here Burleigh and Luis play are the polyrhythms in the other countries of the Americas, this is what was taken away in America, Blues etc, comes out of that space. It is the Holy Howl.

You ask the question...why have drums in a song about taking away the drums/
Because out of the ontic vacuum came Blues. You must understand that Blues only
happened in the United States because on in America was the African de-Africanized.
For African people who were enslaved and brought to the Americas, the drum was more
than just a rhythmic instrument. And you can hear it in all of the countries where Africans
were enslaved. Blacks Code laws forbit slaves from making or playing drums.
