NS Trains at Shawsville Cut

Four Norfolk Southern trains appear at the Shawsville Cut at MP N279.8 on the Christiansburg District. This was a tunnel until it was daylighted some years ago to improve clearance. The extended 1.32 percent grade and 6 to 7 degree curves produced a lot of wheel screech and engine roar echoing through the cut.

The trains are:
721: Clover, VA to Andover, VA
236: Chicago, IL to Norfolk, VA
185: Norfolk, VA (?) to Bellevue, OH
18M: Bellevue, OH to Linwood, NC
