This video will show you how to properly lap structural foundation rebar. You should always lap the rebar 40 times the diameter of the actual rebar it self. However, if you're working with a set of plans are building something that requires a building inspection, you should always refer to the plans, because this information might not apply to every situation. • @Has1b That isn't a dumb question at all. Just don't share it with any of your friends, just kidding. Realistically, all Rebar should be placed within the concrete structure before anyone even thinks about pouring concrete. It will be tied off and securely fastened also.

  • so like when a new foundation is being built, how do they put the rebar in? Just place it in the uncured concrete? probably a dumb question

  • @pantera013 You don't have to, but smaller ones are easier to work with and don't forget that the rebar can't move for a certain period of time, usually 24 hours. you can save a few buck, doing it your way, just make sure that the rebar dosen't move.

  • why do you need to lap the rebar instead of drilling and putting the one main piece of rebar into the old foundation?
