No? Then maybe older is sometimes better, and sometimes not.
Even this hymn was new once.
Living out the Gospel in the real world is the opposite of apostasy. And it is very idfferent from your brand of cultural idolatry.

I could be wrong, but I think you walked into the middle of an argument without realizing it.
For my part, I love this hymn, but most of the time (depending on my mood), I prefer the Red Mountain Church version. They've done a great job updating the old hymns. If you prefer this one, cool. To each his own.

Not 19th century pietism. It was written by Charles Wesley in the 18th century. It's a Methodist classic.

It is quite disheartening to hear you two bickering like this. I love this song (among quite a few other sacred numbers, namely from SoundForth) for its truth and how it glorifies God and came to this particular video expecting something a bit better. What a shock to see this topic up for debate AGAIN. The worst thing about the whole issue is the division it creates.

Satan has confused many christians' minds; they need to be reached with the fact that their "music" is only pleasing them, not God.
We need to choose music that glorifies God and NOT man :)
The bible says to sing praise to the Lord.
It does not say, choose music that you enjoy :P
anyways, I love conservative music and I abhor any other kind.
