The Heady Feeling of Freedom
Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion
OST: Neon Genesis Evangelion OST3(1995)
[audio]

Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Shin Seiki Evangerion), commonly referred to as NGE, Eva, or Evangelion, is a commercially and critically successful, influential, and popular Japanese anime that began in October 1995; the series launched the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. It is commonly and officially[9] regarded as one of the greatest anime of all time. The anime was created by Gainax, written and directed by Hideaki Anno, and co-produced by TV Tokyo and Nihon Ad Systems (NAS).

Evangelion is an apocalyptic mecha action series which centers around the efforts by the paramilitary organization NERV to fight monstrous beings called Angels, primarily using giant mecha called Evangelions which are piloted by select teenagers, one of whom is the primary protagonist. It follows those teenagers and other NERV members until the defeat of the Angels and the eventual apocalyptic ending.

Events in the series refer to Judeo-Christian symbols from the book of Genesis and Biblical apocrypha among others. Later episodes shift focus to psychoanalysis of the main characters, who display various emotional problems and mental illnesses; the nature of existence and reality are questioned in a way that lets Evangelion be characterized as "postmodern fantasy". Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series, had suffered from clinical depression prior to creating the series, and the psychological aspects of the show are based on the director's own experiences with overcoming this illness.

In the original Japanese, the word "Evangelion" is pronounced with a hard g per its Greek roots (see Translation notes on the title below).

  • omedetto!

  • The worst written and crappiest Moments of Evangelion take a dump on most anime out there today......oh wait.....thing is there are no crappy moments in EVA XD XD XD XD

  • @MrNightcrawler Uh huh 8) anything Evangelion is awesome indeed <3

  • @xXTheHeroicGamerXx At least we can agree that all of NGE is amazing :p I love all of the main series(minus final 2 episodes :p), EoE and the Rebuild series, anything Evangelion is awesome :D

  • @MrNightcrawler26 Hmmm come to think of it, yeah you are correct since they didn't want their audience to be puzzled and ticked off since EoE was very dark and disturbing :p. The first time I seen the series was RoE 2.22 back in September (I rly RLY wanted to see NGE, but I couldn't find a channel that had all of the episodes :( heck I couldn't even find Neon Genesis Evangelion on Nextflix xD). But I do respect your opinion though :D. I do too love NGE ^_^

  • @xXTheHeroicGamerXx But just to clarify, I absolutely love NGE, it's one of my favourite anime and one of the best anime ever made, I just didn't like the final 2 episodes and ending :p Everything else is amazing haha

  • @xXTheHeroicGamerXx It was the past, and they rectified their mistakes with End of Evangelion and now Rebuild of Evangelion, but the original ending was not received well. It was a terrible ending, it resolved nothing and left the entire plot hanging. In my opinion, there was nothing beautiful about it. I hated the final 2 episodes, if it wasn't for EoE those last 2 episodes would have ruined Evangelion.

  • @MrNightCrawler26 True they did had budget issues and tax problems, but lets face it that was the past my friend and to tell you the truth, the ending was beautiful even though I hadn't seen it yet. Oh and one thing "Its not about the money, money, money." XDDDDD

  • @WallflowerCowboy No, it was budget issues. The final two episodes were not how the series was meant to end, Death and Rebirth and the End of Evangelion was how it was always planned to end. The final two episodes of the anime were just all they could do with the money they had, it was never planned like that. It was an ending that resolved nothing, Shinji finally came to terms with himself, yes, but the whole plot was unresolved. It was a terrible ending.

  • @cooldonkeyfish Ah yes...I remember those "few depressing parts"....*shivers* gives me the hibbie jibbies when I think about them -_-
