A couple days ago, a friend was watching videos of Tom Brier's performances from this past weekend which have been posted by "sutterchip". She thought that one of the tunes might have been a ragtime version of the famous Hungarian Dance #5 by Johannes Brahms. It wasn't. But I thought that would be a fun tune to do in ragtime, so I made this arrangement tonight.

I added a couple bars to the third strain to make it eight bars long instead of six.

You can download the score here:

EDIT: Since making this video, I have altered the score slightly. There's only one change to the music -- one measure in the second strain. The rest of the changes are simply visual, and frugal as it's now on two pages using a "D.C. al Coda" notation for the reprise.

    Hungarian Dance. Ragtime

  • @PIHE6103 You can download it from a link in the description.

  • I love this idea :) Can you do a ragtime remix of the sugarplum fairy? :P

  • @paniq303 Hmm, well, I do have the orchestral score...

  • I would be willing to learn this but I need to be able to download a midi version of this song x.x. I can't play by sheet music so I memorize the song by watching it slowly and learning part by part x3

  • @FennecDreamer I'll add the MIDI file to my web site soon...

  • Good job! Well done, well played!

  • ilyenkor szeretek magyar lenni.. :-)

  • Great job, never boring for a second. You are talented if you did that in one evening!

  • And Hava Nagila (the old Hebrew folk tune.) Come to think of it, there are quite a few tunes that I reckon would be brought to life with some careful syncopation.

  • I think Greensleeves could also sound great in ragtime.

  • amazing

  • really nice :) congrats

  • Wow - hadn't you said what it was, I would probably not have recognized it. :P
