  • this is actually not much faster than the written tempo, and he plays with plenty of expression. People who criticize gould's interpretation of this are just too used to an over-romanticized version.

  • I am doing an interesting thing at this moment. I have also pulled up Horowitz' recording of Pathetique 3 and compare them by playing, stopping, switching, playing stopping etc. It's very interesting. They are so different. They are BOTH unique and gifted in their different styke. Love and appreicate them both because if you are ever reincarnated into the one you dis on in here, you might have some bad energy to deal with. Appreciate the beauty and the talent and the LOVE for each moment

  • Did someone notice that Glenn Gould was humming through out the whole song?

  • @MagicDolphinGO That is a great way of putting it! People get used to habitual standardized performance habits, the academies churn out pupils mostly based on the expedience of teaching them, because we can't be honest as human beings concerning the fact that art can't be measured, but the artistic academics have been so scared to lose face with their scientific equivalents that they have been crushing artistry into a mold regardless of the consequences.

  • holy... this is fast O.o

But i love the precision and clarity of it. Wonderful <3

  • It is great

  • @SemperVinco

I seem to be able to hear him pretty much throughout. In all the movements.

  • I believe you can hear Gould singing at 2:38 listen carefully.

  • I don't know if I'm worng, but this music is the theme of Sherlock

  • @the9ingredients: how well do you know the 3rd movement of op13? Gould plays practically the entire mov't staccato, which ruins the effect Beethoven asks for from bars 98-106. Those are the only long passage of staccato as Beethoven composed. Gould does NOT play Beethoven's directions! Gould is a poor interpreter of Beethoven. Period!

  • @the9ingredients: Really? I made that comment last year. You must be quite bored to read back that far. Furthermore, my opinion is just and accurate. He did take this mov't absurdly fast. Maybe if you did a little research you would learn that Gould was not a big fan of Beethoven, Chopin or Mozart. With Bach he's genius, with others, not so much.
