Train Coupling Load 2-8-0 Live Steam From Wikipedia.............The company was created in 1901 from the merger of several smaller locomotive manufacturers: * Brooks Locomotive Works in Dunkirk, NY * Cooke Locomotive and Machine Works in Paterson, NJ * Dickson Manufacturing Company in Scranton, PA * Manchester Locomotive Works in Manchester, NH * Pittsburgh Locomotive and Car Works in Pittsburgh, PA * Rhode Island Locomotive Works in Providence, RI * Richmond Locomotive Works in Richmond, VA * Schenectady Locomotive Works in Schenectady, NY

The new company was headquartered in Schenectady and eventually closed all the other locomotive manufacturing plants, except for the main plants in Schenectady, NY and Montreal, Que.

1904 saw the purchase of the Locomotive and Machine Company of Montreal, Canada; this company was eventually renamed the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) and continued to manufacture Alco designs after the parent company ceased production. The next year, 1905, Alco purchased Rogers Locomotive Works of Paterson, New Jersey, the second largest locomotive manufacturer in the US behind Baldwin Locomotive Works.

  • should of kept the car driving by out of it lol

  • That is a Model A with the newly invented car top carrier. LOL

  • It was the 1912 Keystone camera and silver halide film that I used. Then did a video from an old projector. lol If you check all my videos at user "angelica14709" there are other videos of the same locomotive. Look up "Pyle-National generator" on top of this loco.

  • Search Pyle Generator on Alco Locomotive

  • This particular engine is ex-Boyne City RR, purchased by the Arcade & Attica in 1963. No 18 was removed from service at the close of the 2000 excursion season for an overhaul to comply with 40CFR, Part 230... the FRA's new regs on steam locomotives. She returned to service Memorial Day Weekend, 2008!

  • Could you tell us about the new regulations?

  • When i was young i saw a train coupling and it was using this type of coupling(i though it looked like hands so i said:"look mom, trains are shaking hands!"

  • I rode on a steam driven train in the 60's. I believe it was in Arcade. I have a few pics somewhere.

  • HAHA thats funny!

  • The new regulations specify the periods between different inspections & tests as well as mathematical calculations used to determine the maximum operating pressure of the boiler. It also includes things as type & quantity of water level check devices and the appliances used to feed water into the boiler. Other aspects are changed including the definition of a day, (used to be calender days, now is any day with more than atmospheric pressure in the boiler) and how many days between inspections.

  • The new regulations, officially 40CFR Part 230, Inspection, Certification & Maintenance of Steam Locomotives is the end result of several years work by the FRA, or Federal Railroad Administration. Many claim that the new regs were started after the boiler explosion on the Gettysburg RR in the early 90's.
