Each year, Toastmasters International hosts the World Championship of Public Speaking. After months of regional elimination rounds, 30,000 international competitors are whittled down to nine finalists - the best public speakers in the world.

In this special two-part documentary, PODIUM follows all nine finalists as they prepare to compete for the title and the glory. Who will be crowned the champion? Watch and see...

Part 1 introduces the finalists, high off their semi-final victories, and follows them through 24 nerve-wracking hours of re-writes, self doubt, practice sessions, and last minute preparations for the biggest stage of their lives.

Part 2 takes you inside the packed Toastmasters hall for the intense final round of competition. After a year of tireless preparations, this is the moment the finalists have been waiting for. Nine electrifying speeches, intimate backstage moments, and the crowning of a new World Champion of Public Speaking.

So a man - a MAN first and foremost - decides to speak about race, and you criticize the action because he's black. Can you see that you're the one being racist?

One thing about these speakers is that they are bad communicators: bad at listening. They become obsessed about speaking, so while with friends they go on and on. And also, anything they say is a form of competition anywhere they go, and this is stressful.

It's the "Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking". It's not declaring the best in the world; just the best in Toastmasters. It's an organization to help people speak better by over coming anxiety and understanding structure. And by all means, join the competition; like most others, you'll quickly see how vastly you over estimate your abilities. 99% of the people i've met that thought they were "good speakers" were actually pretty bad. I was bad but now I'm better. Still need work.

Talking with your hands is NOT one of the most important things in Toastmasters. Not sure where you picked up that nugget. It's important to do it CORRECTLY; meaning as needed in an effective manner for ANY speaker. Not just Toastmasters. I agree with you however that some of these people were a bit over the top. I personally thought the winner was kind of awful. I seriously struggled to make it through his entire speech, which you can find on youtube.

I think the results are not even near fair

the old man is the best, and they're bad by the way, there are a lot of way better speakers out there. John Maxwell as an example..
