  • @warblerab Yes, "A Night to Remember" is more a documentary and "Titanic" is basically realistic fiction.

  • @Cluedokid25 ok, maybe the portrayal of Lightoller is a little off. But other than that, "A Night to Remember" is very accurate.

  • @marcostar57 I agree with you in regards to "A Night to Remember", but the Webb version is terrible. It is not accurate at all.

  • If 1953 - 1958 mean the years Titanic was around then ( no offence ) your off .

I disagree to an extent. A Night to Remember does a effective job dramatizing the historical event, almost coming across as a documentary. However, the characterization of 2nd Officer Lightoller is a little TOO idealistic compared to the real Lightoller. The 1953 movie is strongly acted thanks to the solid performances by Webb and Stanwyck. Unfortunately, it suffers from schmaltzy moments and poor attention to historical detail.

Still, both are effective in their own way.

  • Great compilation! These two movies are by far the BEST; the dramatization & acting is classic and captures the essence of the tragedy much better than the '97 version & it's dreary love story (although the sinking scene is higher-tech & quite good). Thanks...

  • i could never image the actually boat sinking... i would never be the same... the formal world past away once titanic sank.
