In this video, you'll see two Sure-Lites thermoplastic LED units; a double-face Emergi-Lite X10 incandescent with steel housing; the standard el-cheapo LED thermoplastic with battery backup; a Lithonia Signature Series LED sign with self-diagnostic option; yet another Lithonia 6ELM2P emergency light; and the crown jewel of my collection: the Lithonia Signature Series fluorescent exit sign with battery backup and brushed aluminum face.

I also explain why my Signature Series FL exit sign no longer works and why I really don't like the el-cheapo LED units.

  • I am kind of confused on the exact meaning of the high battery charge, could you please explain that to me?

  • @TssCman123 Sure! A high charge cycle occurs any time after the battery has been used. The battery will be in a state of high charge until it is returned to its "normal" capacity (which varies - a 10-year-old battery will not have the same capacity as a brand-new one due to age, environmental conditions, etc.). After the battery returns to its "normal" capacity in high charge, it will go into a state of float charge. This lower charge cycle is necessary to avoid permanent damage to the battery.

  • @compdude512 Thanks! So is a high charged battery bad? I'm asking this because the LED turned red, which makes me think bad.

  • @TssCman123 "High charge" and "float charge" just describe the charging cycle. A battery is only considered "bad" or past its useful life if it can no longer function for a full 90 minutes in emergency mode. On the sign in my video, a solid-red LED just means the charger is just returning the battery to a full charge. If the LED was red and flashing, then the battery would need to be replaced. Right now, the LED on the bottom is green, which means the battery is fully charged.

  • nice! ive got a emergi lite incandescent like yours. i like the LED ones but i gotta say that i like the incandescent ones better

  • @reynardfoxx I agree with you; although I'm not really a fan of the new X10 LED series, I like the old direct-view LED's they used to use in the series that looks almost like the Lithonia's Signature Series. I believe they call those the Preceptor series, although I'm not 100% sure.
