The good Doctor runs away with the trophy at Saratoga.
Sadly, there was no racecall, so I took a shot at editing music for it.
The piece I chose hopefully captures Dr. Fager's sublime run down the backstretch and the excellence of his stretch run.
Special thanks to lsumark.
I hope you like it.

  • That in my opinion is the best that ever was. Look at how he just opened up with just a hand ride. That incredible stride is just burned into my mind. BEAUTIFUL,THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!

  • The good Doctor was a monster horse. I noticed those things you've mentioned and thought the music I chose conveyed the sense of awe and wonder he projected on the backstretch and stretch.

    Sublime to watch.

You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it.

  • huh, why was there no call O.o

Thanks for this cf!I was just thinking of the Doc

  • Yeah, I was bummed out at that too. NSOT at the beginning shows the lack of sound. The music went well with it though, in my opinion.

    You're welcome, Carly.

  • I was at Tartan Farms in 1972 where he stood at stud, he was in a pasture, and looked very powerful, also saw Needles that day. You had to walk thru Bonnie Heath farm to get to Tartan, he was 19 then stable person gave me a carrot to give to him. 30 years latter I play golf at state course in Saratoga Springs, Played with short older man, and young guy. On the back nine I asked him if was ever a jockey, he said he was and guess who it was Dave Erb who rode Needles in the KD when he won, amazing

  • @schardy80 He is a monster horse but not at long distance. He ran his fastest as a 4 yr. old. Eddie Arcaro said Secretariat better than all he seen. Fager jockey said Buckpasser best he ever rode and the Dr. was one of his favorites. Not being a long distance threat might be the reason he was #6 on the Bloodhorse list. Not sure.

  • God look at him go during that last eighth of a mile!

  • @BE109 I wish I had been born when Dr Fager was around. From my research he ought to be mentioned with Secretariat and Man O'War.....but he appears not to get his rightful plaudits IMO

  • For me, Dr. Fager and Kelso were the two best racehorses ever.

  • He retired right at his absolute peak (bad knee)...a wonder horse that in all probability would have gone undefeated in 1969, any distance, any surface and any weight. He was THAT good.

  • The Doc was my favorite horse considering in won won all those awards the year I( was born.

  • This was like a public workout! Incredible horse. Saw him break the track record at The Big A for 7 furlongs with 139 pounds on his back!

  • 1:48.4 breezing.....you're so right.

I know that he paid $2.10 to win, but I

didn't realize that Saratoga had a minus win pool. He ran the last 1/8 in 12.1. He rated nicely that day with nobody on the lead. You can see his ability to run a distance with no rabbit to contend with. He could have gone 1 1/2 miles that day. He would have been a perfect match race horse against any horse that ever lived, any horse.....

  • "The Doc" could have carried 50lbs more and it wouldn't have made a difference. He was just incredible,my favorite all time Racehorse.
