  • i like your choice of guitar and neck

  • @StyleAco This one is a Fender strat. Highway One :)

  • @wizardofshred edushreds i challenge you to a guitar battle!

  • Awesome lessons dude, are you using a metal pick???

  • @edushreds EP requires you to have an uneven number of notes per string in order for you to be able to sweep from one string to another. If you don't incorporate a bit of alternate picking into this technique, it will limit you at times. Malmsteen uses almost only EP but then he blends it with AP when he must. I suggest you start with EP and then develop some AP afterwords :o)

  • @wizardofshred yeah man kinda.... so you're saying that malmsteen uses economy picking more that alternate picking? and what things can't you play with EP (econny picking)? im just saying man, and i'm asking you simply because you are a way better shredder than i am ;) man maybe we could talk on MSN or faceboook.

  • @edushreds My advice would be to go for both. It's not twice the work, because learning one picking style will make it easier for you to learn the other. There's also no difference in speed, in my experience, although alternate picking involves more effort when shifting strings, it's quite possible to perform them as fast as those of economy picking simply because you have breaks in between the string shifting (A concept a little too complex to explain here :o) I hope this makes sense?

  • @edushreds It's not fair to say that economy picking is the best because it's a matter of what sound you are after. Consider the sound of malmsteen compared to the sound of Paul Gilbert. Pauls picking style sounds a lot different that Mr. Malmsteens. Economy picking sounds more fluent, more like legato, while alternate picking gives you a more even sound rhythmically. And there are things you cannot play with economy picking and things you can play much better with economy picking.

  • @wizardofshred yeah man. but i still have my doubts u know. i've studing shredding for like a year or two and obviously that i've become a much better player. i've paul gilberts, michael angelo, john petrucci, etc. shred methods. And this are MAB (Michael Angelo Batio) words: "The less I have to move, the faster I can be". makes sense don't you think? so if we put it this way, economy picking is better than alternate. why? because i have to move less. what do u think?

  • @edushreds In this particular video I use economy picking and / or sweeping. But it varies. Most often I use alternate picking but there's just some things that are best played with economy picking. Take the path of least resistance when in doubt :o) Thanks for commenting
