I listened to top of the pops all through the eighties and still when you go back to 1977 and listen to this noise it just tells me again that i heard nothing caught this record january 2012 and all it says is gary gilmore to the adverts was king punk love to see how rotten stood up to a headbutt from this band you can see why bands were made from new wave music i felt like a punk after this this track just tells the buzzcocks to start again adverts felt ace man.

part 2 ... Looking through Gary Gilmore's eyes. Looking through Gary Gilmore's eyes. I smash the light in anger. Push my bed against the door. I close my lids across my eyes, And wish to see no more. The eye receives the messages, And sends them to the brain. No guarantee the stimuli must be perceived the same... When looking through Gary Gilmore's eyes. Gary don't need his eyes to see. Gary and his eyes have parted company

I'm lying in a hospital, I'm pinned against the bed. A stethoscope upon my heart, A hand against my head. They're peeling off the bandages. I'm wincing in the light. The nurse is looking anxious, And she's quivering in fright... I'm looking through Gary Gilmore's eyes. The doctors are avoiding me. My vision is confused. I listen to my earphones, And I catch the evening news. A murderer's been killed, And he donates his sight to science. I'm locked into a private ward. I realise that I must be.

@trapadoored the punk label came later when basically it was dead and turned into pop.everything has to be labelled but originally it was new and hi energy and so very different and simple to what was being served up and played by radio and record companies..but at the time being a teenager it was so wild and exciting and reactionary because so many people even youngsters despised it..but a lot of good bands came from it..cheers

I wish people would define "hardcore" as a seperate genre and leave the punk name off of it. Much as I like some of those bands, that scene devolved into nothing more than sologan shouting. seems to me actual punk at it's core was basic stripped down quirky rock n roll much closer to what would be deemed "pop punk" now. It was simple-sure-but melodic-and didn't take itself seriously. (I.E Ramones or the Boys)The antithesis of hardcore.
