Hold on- The OP's complaint is a bit misguided, in my opinion.
If it were a problem with the hitbox, wouldn't the same trick work on a scout who's standing still? As in, he's standing still, you walk up and strike the air behind him and see if it damages him.
Now, if the hitbox did this consistently while he's moving... That I could understand- I'm trying to make sense of what may be going wrong here.

This happened because the hit registers instantly, but the animation takes time to process
The hitboxes are a small price to pay to not have to play *shudder* Call of duty.
