Typical dyes used in Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells are often made out of expensive metals like Ruthenium. However, if we can make good dyes out of cheap and abundant metals like Copper then we can make much cheaper solar cells. Copper is already used in lots of everyday objects like electrical wiring and pipes and is also a main ingredient of brass and bronze which are used to make things like coins, medals, and statues.
