Also, in real life, if two people acted like this (especially when Derek was being protective of Casey in Truman's last chance), they would DEFINITELY have romantic feelings for each other. Of course, the show couldn't be explicit in their showing that.

I think the thing with Dasey is that at least some of the writers probably supported Dasey in a way, but stopped themselves short of actually officially bringing them together because it was a kids' show. That's why there's SO many moments between them (that are SO not brotherly), but never actual "romance" between them. They were, I think, trying to please the majority of the fans who loved Dasey, through those moments, but understood their limitations as to how far they could go with them.
