@eleggance dont mean to insult you, but your comment is just as ignorant as it gets! the majority of female mutilation in these countries involves not only cutting the clit off...but also cutting the whole female genitalia (yes, the lips) and then sowing it up with whatever comes to hand. All of this WITH NO anesthesia. Just to add a it more information, the first time these girls undergo a sexual relation, the man has to cut off the stiches with a knife in order to be able to get in.

Now if you can explain to me how that custom originated from women somehow, or how it benefits a woman in any possible way, please do. The motivations behind the mutilations are clear, and that information comes directly from the World Health Organization, which has been crusading for many years to end FGM. How many more FACTS do you want?

@blade0817 @blade0817 originated, without going into gory details, the main goal is to inhibit libido by removing the clitoris (& usually the labia), &/or to sew the entire vaginal area closed so there is only a hole the size of a matchstick to let fluids out. Why do either one? So the woman remains faithful & doesn't seek out sex with anyone besides the husband, & so the female is guaranteed to be virgin prior to being taken as a wife. The husband gets to 'rip open' his wife's vagina

@blade0817 I didn't outright blame men, or say it was the fault of ALL men. What are you getting so offended for? Your original comment was that the procedure was perpetrated by women. I even said, 'what difference does it make who is cutting them, they don't deserve it for any reason.' You're awfully touchy about the subject. A couple of years ago I saw an African country starting educational programs for women because 80% of them were illiterate. Within a couple of month a movement of 200,000 was formed, lead by a WOMAN! They said WOMEN don't want to break the traditions. So stop pointing fingers, show facts
