Actually, the present visitor's center is only a few years old. There were actually multiple times that many guns on display in the old visitor's center, though they didn't have the whole museum thing you went through. I strongly prefer the new visitor's center, but my mother (a former battlefield guide) is still ticked off that they don't have any more of the guns up on display.
