The composition was inspired by the view of the famous Cathedral of Cologne [Koelner Peters Dom (1248-1880...)] on July 13, 2000. Together with the Vienna's Cathedral [Wiener Stephansdom (12c.-15c.)] and the Milan's Cathedral [Milano Duomo (1386-1810)] represent, for me, three of the top - specimens of pure gothic architecture! It is a descriptive composition in 12 variations based on a theme (cantus firmus) by anonymous. It's the whole story of the creation of the Gothic Masterpieces through the centuries. Each of the variations describes an event, a feeling or a situation in reference to eternal years of building. In more details, the three first variations (I-III) are based to chords (bass) because of basis of the build. On variations IV to VII there are complex Kontrapunktum's elaborations and many other ornaments (trills, appoggiatures, etc), characteristics of the baroque style's creature. From var. VI to VII the measure 105 introduce the new variation as a lament for the previous. From var. VII to VIII the measure 120 could play with holding-more pedal note like a presage to the new variation. The variation IX with dull and heavy pedal (Subbass / Posaune) until measure 149, peace from measure 150 (tranquillo - calmo). In three last variations (X-XII) I altered the chords (bass) a little, because of the description of destructions and changes of the initial plan.
C.F. (pedal) ~ Var.I: Allegro sostenuto [The idea of "Building"]
Var.II: Grandioso [Joy and Ave - The "Creation"]
Var.III: Tenebroso [The first smooth Steps]
Var.IV: Con bravura ["So viel Arbeit" - The first visible result]
Var.V: Espressivo [Remembrances of the primitive Idea]
Var.VI: 2ble pedal [Slavery - Pain - Accidents]
Var.VII: Dolce e Cantabile [Lament - All goes to the integration]
Var.VIII: Adagio - Molto Elegante [Hurrah! Fanfare for the "Creature"]
Var.IX: Molto agitato [War! Fire and partial katastrophe]
Var.X: Andante calmo [There's still a Hope - Patient working]
Var.XI: Allegro con moto [The Fate... Hurry up! - Bells and Spiral]
Var.XII: Moderato grandioso [Vitreaux Finale! Baroque esthetics!]
Composed between 1-10 October 2000 and dedicated to the victims of the hard building work at the gothic masterpieces through the centuries...
