Canada apologises to indigenous population - 10 Jun 08

For more than a century, tens of thousands of native Canadian children were forced to attend residential schools where they were made to adopt the customs of the country's white majority.

But many say they suffered years of physical and sexual abuse.

Now the government is set to formally apologise and pay hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation to victims.

the canadian government figured itll just give all the natives that went to residencial schools money and everything will be ok. my father only spoke his language when he was sent to 1 of these schools, to this day he will not speak our languages. an apology and money will never heal what was lost for so many of our people

This shit really needs to stop. Leave the past in the past, the government doesn't care about any of us. Aboriginals claim to want equality but all they do is segregate themselves from the rest of Canada. It's always white man this native issues that. Natives IMO are hypocrites why can't we all just work together regardless of ethnicity? This is why my philosaphy is "Equality or GTFO" we all live on this earth so lets work together as a whole and not as seperate groups.

Did u know that Natives/non-Natives employees and the private sector who live & work on a Reservation/Reserve pay taxes to the Tribe and to the Federal Government? Did you that any little help from the Government a Native gets does not match the way Whites recieve assistance? Did u know that White business receive corporate welfare? Did you know that Tribes are sovereign nations and operate businesses? Did you know Tribes are a sovereign Governments and they don't pay taxes they collect them? Did you know that when a Tribe makes a profit they spend it on education, infrastructure and other programs to provide opportunities for their members so they'll almost have the same opportunities has a White...Did u know that a sovereign entity like a state cannot tax another business or Government in a sovereign state or Tribe.

@MisterMielke Why does the whitey get most of the loans from the Government and banks..certain things just boggle me...A Native will have to work 3 times harder than a White to become succesfull...We owned 100% of the lands before Euros came ashore, now we own 10% of North America...The Government giving some hush money, a little land, financial aid will never pay or make things all better...The rich Natives are buying land back...Whites have majority of the good lands, did u know that?

@Gulfporter well spoken, I agree also there were atrocities, but why does it get leveraged to the fullest with govt. handouts for land, financial aid, and so on. I understand that some wounds dont heal, but certain things just boggle me...why does a native get to pay less tax than I do on cigarettes and other purchases?
