Also, It's not worth saving a buck and loosing your head.

If you have a faired or half faired bike, like my z750, By laying down and tucking in tight, you can get really good gas mileage. Last trip I took to Alabama, I laid down on the kawasaki and got 64mpg running around 80-85 on the interstate. Best I've ever got on that bike. Usually I get between 35-50 depending on my wrist action...

Very good information. I rarely have to use this option, I try to use it only when i'm fearing i'm not going to make it to the gas station or the weather is shit (normally i'm not to far from my house 20mi or so). like I said it should be done in emergency situations. I have no fairings but tuck in and i get really good gas mileage when I do, but some bikes like choppers its way harder to do that. I completely agree though that unless you have a reason to be doing so I wouldnt do it.

As a former trucker, I must comment.

I would advise against following truckers. Just a few reasons. Most companies run recaps on Trailers. Unless the drivers are responsible and check the pressure when they grab the trailer, you could loose your head if a rear tire lets go. Another thing is road debris can easily be thrown into you if there is a car beside them and they cannot miss it. I was adamant about making sure pressure was correct and still lost trailer tires from time to time.
