N.W. Vietnam: The Bac Ha Sunday Market

It was a rainy, misty day up and over more mountains for a 3-1/2 hour ride from Sapa to the Bac Ha Sunday Market frequented by the Flower Hmongs. We tried to get here in 2001 but the roads were impassable then...a sea of mud. The second time was the lucky charm.

Bac Ha lived up to its reputation. A "not for tourist" market (even though we were out in abundance) but a place for the locals to shop and schmooze after a very long (sometimes two days) journey to buy and sell their merchandise.
