Brand new SRAM X9 stuck in if fully extended, also moves very slowly , most possibly due to overtightened bolts

  • This video is pointless. You haven't given any information on the cause of failure. It should be examined by a mechanic and then maybe you can put the blame on SRAM.

A sane viewer would trust the engineers in SRAM more than some guy posting such a video. Again, your post is pointless.

  • @kerembasaran

Just to see the whole picture:

I've bought a bike about 2 years ago which came with this mech. I cycling 2 times every month for about 3 hours. The mech got loose at the pivots, so it did not align up properly the chain at all positions. So I've decided to replace it. Obviously the brand new one was too stiff, and even a verly slight grit or temperature changed could have caused it to get stuck in the uppermost position.

  • The design of this mech produces very low torque when it is fully extended. The Shimanos XT mech which has 1 rotation axle at the top and 2 at the bottom (triangle) vs 2-2 (parallelogram) on the sram produces much more torque when u are on the biggest sprocket.

Everyone can trust whoever they want, I trust physics and mathematics.

I have M.Sc. degree in engineering, and I've posted this video to share my "bad experience"

    Thanks for your comment.

  • it just need some oil in the bolts and the rotors and a good cleaning

  • It was perfectly clean. It's obviously not what you would expect from a brand new mech. The original one which came with the bike didn't last 1 year, and it wore out at the bolts. I got it replaced by a Shimano XT.

  • @RichardWenborn I think (and hope) they meant jockey pulleys.

  • @Thespyykker SRAM derailleurs don't have a b tension screw. The only other bolts are the cable anchor bolt and the limits screws. Limit screws control how far up or down the der. can move. The anchor bolt.... well anchors the cable.....

  • @mockys2007 That's exactly what I said when I first saw this.

  • @MeeowsyMcDermott Btw it looks that somethings wrong with a spring in a derailleur..That movement doesn't look quite normal...

  • @francisc0 I understand you like discussing with people & gaining knowledge for your self..But in here there's a saying " a real knowledge has to be stolen" roughly translated..That means..go to a mechanic and just absorb what you see.."Steal" a knowledge from him..Like this you are getting in more of dubiosus..Especially cause of many different opinions..Sorry for a crappy English.

  • in my experience, cable housing has a little something to do with it.

  • REPLACE CABLE! OIL SPRING SIMPLES!

  • Sorry francisc0, I thought you were just an unhappy user with no insight on the subject.

I think you can find which point causes the stress on the movement of the derailleur more easily if you remove the spring on the mechanism first. If it is some kind of dirt stuck in the wrong place, maybe it can be fixed. I have never used an X9 but for almost 5 years I'm using an X7. I broke one and got another one last year. It always worked flawlessly on my 8 gear setup.
