Tons of snow and it's below zero. Sounds to me like a recipe for adventure and a a perfect opportunity to get out and do some more gear testing. The day is striking: pristine powder of the mountains and evergreens in the Rocky Mountains, sunshine. Taking along trusty Allie the Mountain Dog and friend Cr0cket20, we hit the frigid and snowy mountains. I take along overnight gear, many blades, some hawks (not all tested in this outing, no energy/time!), and some REAL grub for the outing. It's all carried in the excellent Kelty "Eagle 7850" tactical backpack undergoing testing (see www.amronintl.com, tell them I sent ya'). Cr0cket20 carries his share of steel too in his Kelty Redwing pack. The slope is steep and the work to make it all happen is grueling (try it sometime!), especially when the temperature drops to -10ºF when the sun leaves us. Allie shivers and I zip her into my LL Bean Primaloft jacket and she warms up, camped out on the Ridgerest pad I hiked up for her. Wood prep and firemaking becomes the priority when we establish "base camp." After some more work and energy spent, we have an awesome spirit-warming, cooking fire. Bacon-wrapped chicken, Mexican corn, beans, and rice are on the menu and we're famished. Work and family obligations prevent a multi-day adventure here which actually makes the outing tougher (no tent setup to warm up in). A long hike out is done after dark by with our much-admired Fenix and 4Sevens lighting options (discussed). A great time, a great memory. ////////////////////// Music: Licensed to TNP from www.danosongs.com

  • Hey Nutn or Veri. How important is weight payload when buying snowshoes? Me and a 40lb pack weigh more than 300lbs. 40lbs is a light load for me and I haven't seen snowshoes rated higher than 300. And the ones that go up to 300 are huge, heavy and expensive. Please respond.

  • @Bigl8317 Hiya Big, I set this comment aside so that Nutn will make sure to see it. He should answer in the next day or two. -- Veri

  • Thanks Veri, really appreciate it! I know he was planning on it anyway. He has a tough balance because I know he probably gets more requests on gun reviews, etc, but I can appreciate both. With a 3.5 year old son, I've been dusting off my old backpacking gear and replacing as needed. I really appreciate the camping/hikiing/backpacking vids because getting outside and being active is what is all about! I should specify the pack is his Kelty Eagle 7850. Thank you!

  • @TigerRagFishingTeam No thank you for taking time out of your busy life to watch these vids. Nutn loves to hear feedback and review requests and will adjust his review schedule accordingly many times when he knows that people are waiting on them. Have fun and be safe! -- Veri

  • Please do a table top on the pack....very interested. Like more info on it. Have it saved in my wish list ready to order when I hear more info. Most reviews I've read a fairly positive on it. Weight being one detriment and the other that it doesn't really have the durability of a military/tactical pack. When I read those, it sounded like guys not taking care of their gear though. May have to pull the trigger on it and test for myself this fall. Current pack is 5000 ci frame pack.

  • @TigerRagFishingTeam Passed along your request and Nutn says its a good idea and he'll put it on the list. -- Veri
